One man's junk, is another man's treasure!
What can we do with these old tyres which someone left outside our Apii?
"Maybe they came off those big trucks?" said one child. "Yea, I think so, it's got big wheels...like this one", said another
(Thinking & Reasoning - Active Exploration).
"Let's race! Mine is faster than yours..."
It did not take long for some of our older tamariki to discover ways of using the old tyres.
"Developing the knowledge that playing with ideas and materials, with no objective in mind, can be enjoyable, creative, and valid approach to learning"
(Exploration Goal 1).
On a daily basis, we can hear and see many different kinds of vehicles from standing on top of our slide tower. It is quite noticeable how structural changes within our local community are playing a big part in encouraging an on-going interest in transport and construction for our tamariki.
To extend on this interest we are currently planning a centre excursion to
M.O.T.A.T
"Adults should plan activities, resources, and events which build upon and extend children's interests"
(Te Whariki - Exploration p83).
