Parent Contribution Fosters a Sense of Belonging

Building relationships with our local community is always an important part of developing a sense of belonging for our families/whanau & tamariki & staff within our apii.

One of the ways we encourage this is by displaying pictures of buildings that surround our centre.

When Hemi & Jasmine's mum (Esther) saw a photo of their church on our apii wall, she kindly offered to set up a visit for our tamariki. Esther even offered her time to walk with our small group down to the church for the visit.

During our time at the church, tamariki and teachers were invited in by Dez, who kindly gave us a tour, and explained the church's purpose in our community. 

Jasmine and Hemi were also keen to share their experiences with their church, with their apii friends.

Meitaki Esther! Thank you so much for making this trip possible. We truly appreciate your support.

Red Cross increases emergency aid to Fiji

Thank you to all our whanau that helped us raise $327.30cents last Friday.

Meet & Greet Parent Evening

We would like to thank all our parents, whanau, and staff for taking part in our very first Meet & Greet Evening for 2016.

This evening was about everyone coming together to meet in a relaxed environment.

Fun activities were on tonight's agenda, and our families did not disappoint with their willingness to have a go.

Well done everyone!!! Your support means so much not only to our staff, but also to your children. You should all be proud!

Apii Potiki staff hope that all our families enjoyed themselves, just as much as we enjoyed having you. 

Our on going aim is to foster a sense of 'Belonging' for our families, this is also reflected within our early childhood curriculum as it suggests...

"Parents and whanau should be welcomed and be comfortable and involved in the programme in ways that are meaningful to them and their child, with opportunities provided for parents to meet each other " (Te Whariki p55).

Farewell Hudson

Last Friday (19th Feb) we farewelled Hudson & his family. We wish them well and all the best for the future.

Meet & Greet Evening

A parent/whanau & Apii Potiki staff 'Meet & Greet evening is happening this week on Wednesday 24th February at 6pm to 7pm. 

Come along, meet some new friends, and talk with our staff within a relaxed and fun environment.

Light and healthy snacks will be available.

Mission Bay Excursion

The idea for this excursion came about after we shared ideas during mat times about Auckland Anniversary Day.

Main purposes for today's trip to Mission Bay was for tamariki to develop a knowledge of features of the land which are of local significance, to develop a relationship with the natural environment, and for tamariki to gain an understanding of their own place in our city of Tamaki Makaurau (Auckland).

We caught a public bus from outside our Apii to Mission Bay. Tamariki enjoyed exploring the beach, sea life, and of course the playground.

We gave thanks by saying our pure (prayer) before we ate morning tea in front of Rangitoto. Tamariki were also reminded to say thankyou to Tangaroa (Maori God of the Sea), before gathering their natural resources.

The fountain was a familiar sight for most.

Although it was unfortunate that we were not able to have all our tamariki attend our trip today, those who did go will be encouraged to share their Mission Bay experience over the next few days.

We would also like to acknowledge our parents who came along to share this experience with our tamariki.
